Blue Light Disco is the way forward
Young people in Caithness are to be offered the chance to attend a new event which is both safe and sociable. The Blue Light Disco, a relatively new concept, will be launched in June 08.
There will be a condition on entry that all of the young people must take a breathalyser test and no alcohol may be taken in to the Disco. Anyone who has been drinking will be taken straight home.
The idea first started in Australia and has since proved to be popular in parts of Scotland and has been seen to be effective in relationship building between the police and other organisations who are involved with the youngsters. The police will be in attendance and will offer advice on various subjects in the designated ‘chill out' areas.
The discos should enable the young people to get to know their new peers in a relaxed environment and this in turn will hopefully help to alleviate any worries that may have about moving up to their new schools.
