A coach was overturned and 25 people injured due to the driver being drunk at the wheel.
The driver from Halesowen lost control on a bend causing the coach to hit a kerb, fly into the air and roll before hitting a lamp post and a tree.
The 35 year old driver claimed that he thought he was taking a slip road, he was found to be twice over the legal limit. He was jailed for 10 months and told that he had betrayed the confidence and trust of his passengers.
The Birmingham to Stanstead National Express Coach, service No 777 was carrying 33 passengers at the time of the incident which was 3 rd Sept 07.
The slip road was closed for 48 hours following the incident and more than 100 accident and emergency crew were in attendance. One passenger who was not strapped in had numerous broken bones and a skinned arm. There were luckily fewer serious injuries due to the fact that most passengers were wearing their seat belts.
