Crash should be taken as a warning against drink driving

Three people have been killed in a head on crash, the son of two of the victims has pleaded with the public not to drink and drive.

Sarah Cassell was driving the wrong way on the A38 when she hit Allan and Susan Cowlings' car head on. She was found to be nearly 3 times over the legal limit an inquest was told.

Ms Cassell had driven down a slip road the wrong way despite no entry signs and ended up driving in the wrong direction down the fast lane of the A38 towards Plymouth.

She collided with the Cowlings vehicle at a combined speed of 140 mph killing all 3 of them instantly.

The inquest ruled that Mr and Mrs Cowling had been unlawfully killed. After the verdict and at his parents graveside Mark Langdon said that the verdict would not bring anyone back.

He said: “This is all down to drink-driving, and my message to other drivers is: 'Don't drink and drive'.
