Drink Driver is 6 times over the limit
A man has been caught drink driving after being seen staggering to pay for his fuel in a garage and the Police were called. He was found to be 6 times over the limit and gave a second reading of 220 mg which is as high as the breathalyser can measure.
Peter Banks, 44, had unopened cans of strong lager littered over the passenger seat of his Nissan Sunny along with an empty can of Special Brew.
Sussex Police said it was the highest alcohol reading they had ever recorded and at the hearing Mr Banks, a self confessed alcoholic, received a 4 month prison sentence and a 5 year driving ban.
Sussex Police had an Easter weekend operation targeting drink drivers which resulted in 1 in 8 being over the limit. Superintendant Paul Morrison commented that a small percentage of the population believe that they can get away with it, not realising that they are so much more likely to have an accident which would result in a certain breath test and driving ban.
