Persistant drink-driver jailed
Shiona Lindsay, 47, a senior banking manager, was given a four month jail term and a five year driving ban for drink driving and also driving whilst disqualified.
She was 4 times over the limit when she was caught driving on the A77 on 9th September. Her breath alcohol count was 143mg and the legal lilmit is 35mg.
She had already been convicted 2 times for drink driving and had, only the month before, received a driving ban.
The court was told that on the day of her arrest she had been meaning to take her own life as she felt she could no longer carry on. She had been intending to drive somewhere and take some pills on top of the alcohol that she had already consumed. She has a history of depression and alcohol abuse which goes back for six years, although she has still managed to hold down a very responsible job.
The judge decided that she should receive a custodial sentence, one of the reasons being that a recent social report had shown that Ms Lindsay seemed unable to accept that if she drove whilst under the influence of alcohol she posed a threat to herself and other motorists.
